In 1971, three friends from Syracuse University, William I. Houghton, N. Stewart Quarty, and Frank M. Warr, decided to create an architecture firm based on the principles of innovative design, quality construction, uncompromising attention to detail, and most importantly, the development of unique solutions to satisfy each of their client’s individual requirements. From these ideals, Houghton Quarty Warr Architects was established.

In recent years the firm has incorporated and shortened the name to HQW Architects. A growing list of current projects, an expanding staff, and the desire to better serve our clientele has enabled us to expand throughout the Tri-state region. HQW now has three offices located in the Metro New York, Metro Philadelphia, and Northern New Jersey areas.

The firm is currently led by founding partner Frank Warr and our newest partner Sergio Chavarria. The senior staff of HQW Architects are all graduate architects: four hold architectural licenses in NJ, NY, PA, CT, RI, DE, MD, and FL. Other licenses include NJ Planner, NJ Certified Interior Designer, Building Inspector, and Class 1 HHS Fire Inspector. HQW is a member of the USGBC having two LEED accredited professionals. All principles are members of the AIA and are NCARB accredited. We are certified by the NJDMPC, NJSDA, and the Philadelphia School District.
